Chinese lantern

Chinese lantern or Japanese-lantern plant (Physalis alkekengi) is the large, red-orange, inflated seed pod from which the plant gets its common name. These papery pods enclose a fruit that is edible though not very tasty. While the leaves and unripened fruit are poisonous, many people like to make use of the pods in dried flower arrangements. Physalis can be planted in either full sun or partial shade. It is best to plant them on the sunniest side of your home but in an area that isn’t exposed to full sun for more than 8 hours a day.
